In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful and Compassionate

All praise to Allah, Lord of the Worlds. And salutations and greetings upon our Master Muhammad and upon his family and companions.

I intend to study and teach, take and give a reminder, take and give benefit, take and give advantage, to encourage the holding fast to the book of Allah and the way of his messenger, and calling to guidance and directing towards good hoping for the countenance of Allah and His pleasure, proximity and reward, transcendent is He.

Sayyidah Fatima Zahra; the beloved of the beloved. The speech is very long and forty minutes will not be enough. An hour, a day, a month, not even a whole lifetime is enough.

She is the daughter of Sayyidah Khadija and Sayyidina Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). She is the greatest women ever that Allah (Exalted is He) has created. RasulAllah (peace and blessings be upon him said (in the meaning of what he said), “There are so many perfected men but no women apart from four. They are Khadija b. Khuwaylid, Maryam b. Imran, Asiya b. Muzahim and Fatima b. Muhammad.”

The scholars have said that the best is Sayyidah Fatima (alayha-salam) because RasulAllah (peace and blessings be upon him) said that, “she is a part of me.” If something is a part of him (peace and blessings be upon him), then definitely no-one is better. “She is a piece of me.” Another Prophetic Tradition (in the meaning of what was said) is, “Hassan and Hussain are the masters of the youth of Jannah and Fatima is the lady of the ladies.” Her children are the masters and she is the best and will be the lady of them all. Another Prophetic Tradition (in the meaning of what was said) is, “A new angel (one that has never come before) came and said Fatima is the lady of all the ladies, the most noble and give her these glad-tidings.” She had the same beauty as her father. The whiteness in her eyes was very white and the blackness in her eyes was very black. She never went through the cycles of menstruation. She was called Fatima because the hellfire cannot reach her. Whoever loves her, they are freed from the hellfire too. When the hellfire sees her, it is scared from her light.

A Prophetic Tradition (in the meaning of what was said), “Allah will be happy when Fatima is happy and Allah will be angry when Fatima is angry.”

Why does RasulAllah (peace and blessings be upon him) mention all these traditions? It is important to understand the reason behind this. She has a special station, there were other daughters but she was the youngest. She was born 5 years before Prophecy, on the day Makkah was fighting about who will place the black stone. RasulAllah (peace and blessings be upon him) left home after hearing this and one of the wise men suggested that whoever enters first is the one who will decide. Then Sayyidina Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) entered and they said, “Sadiq al Amin” (The trustworthy one) so they agreed for him to decide. With his wisdom, he decided that the head of each tribe will hold a part of the cloth and by his blessed hand he will place the blessed stone. He did all this before prophecy. Peace and blessings be upon him.

When he returned home, he found that Our Mother, Khadija (may Allah be pleased with her), had given birth to Fatima Zahra (alayha-salam). He held her, hugged her, smelled her and kissed her. Sayyidah Khadija said that she looked like her father. Allah perfected the Ka’bah and the Prophet’s house through Sayyidah Fatima Zahra (alayha-salam). The Arabs used to have women who breastfed their children where they went out of the city in order to have a good upbringing without diseases and to learn pure Arabic but Sayyidah Khadija realised her speciality so she breastfed her. She grew up in the best household. No greater household and love has ever been witnessed.

Sayyidah Khadija is the first woman of sacrifice. Then Allah ordered RasulAllah (peace and blessings be upon him) to spread the deen. The calamities and suffering started. Due to her love, she never left him. Islam started secretly at first and at the public announcement, he (peace and blessings be upon him) started receiving enemies.

An enemy strangled RasulAllah (peace and blessings be upon him) and Fatima Zahra (alayha-salam) cried until Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came to defend. He told her not worry, no-one can talk about their love. Each atom in her body was in love and calling to her father. It was difficult for her to witness (all these trials).

An evil man put the stomach of a camel on his blessed back and she was cleaning it and questioning their motives as they called him “the trustworthy one” before. Another time stones were thrown and she cried a lot. Our Mother, Khadija (may Allah be pleased with her) knew harm will come. The sunnah of life is that despite harm, we have to be patient and persevere. No-one has or will have harm like the harm that RasulAllah (peace and blessings be upon him) faced.

Her sister, Ruqayyah, migrated to Ethiopia with her husband, Sayyidina Uthman b. Affan. When they heard that the disbelievers have become believers due to their prostration with the Messenger at the power of the verses of Surah Najm, they returned. Only to find that it was a rumour. She watched everything and it is as if Allah (Exalted is He) was preparing her so she becomes a role model.

They were under siege for three years where they started eating from the leaves of trees. You could hear the crying of women and children. Sayyidina Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) came with a piece of bread to give to RasulAllah (peace and blessings be upon him) who shared it with Khadija and his children (may Allah be pleased with them all). They all had sabr (patience). Fatima Zahra (alayha-salam) began to wonder where the love of her father went that was there previously. It made her angry. In this calamity, he (peace and blessings be upon him) lost his wife. She was his beloved, the noble one. She gave all her wealth to protect Islam. She supported him with everything that Allah gave her until her death. Imagine Fatima Zahra in that time. We are not talking about normal parents. RasulAllah (peace and blessings be upon him) put her head in his lap and was joking with his wife. Fatima Zahra watched this and began to cry. Jibril came with the news to give Khadija glad-tidings and salams (peace) from Allah and to inform her that Allah has prepared a beautiful house made of pearls with no calamities, no tiresome, no hunger, no disease and it is quiet. We know Allah treats you as you do. She replied, “Allah is salam (peace) and upon Jibril I send salam (peace).” When you say the sunnah dua (supplication) of salam (peace) after prayer, remember her. Think about her, you will receive. May Allah be pleased with her.

If I don’t know about the Mothers of the Believers and the Daughters, who is my teacher? Everyone has something special.

If you cannot follow a man (Prophet Muhammad) then follow Fatima Zahra (alayha-salam). Her footsteps were on her father’s. She is the mother of her father; umm abi-ha. Her father felt lonely and she asked him to remarry but he never thought of women as he was busy with dawah (calling unto God). He married Our Mother, Sawdah, with the intention of her looking after his children. Endless peace and blessings be upon them all.

At the age of 13/14, the companions began to ask for her hand in marriage. Sayyidina Abu Bakr and Sayyidina Umar al Khattab (may Allah be pleased with them both) were given no answer so they asked Sayyidina Ali (may Allah ennoble his face) to go. He was very shy and quiet but RasulAllah (peace and blessings be upon him) knew the reason of his coming but they were both shy. RasulAllah asked why he came and he was quiet and then mentioned Fatima Zahra. RasulAllah responded, “marhaban wa ahlan.” For the dowry he only had a bow and sword but he needed the sword but he sold the bow. A third of the dowry went towards her perfume and her father loved perfume. The Companions asked about the response and they said that he received a good welcome. Who said this nikah? Allah. The food of the walima (wedding celebration) was the tastiest and this wedding was celebrated in the heavens as well as the earth. On the day, she sacrificed her wedding dress to someone in need and was given a dress from heaven.

One day, Sayyidina Ali noticed that his wife was tired and told her to go to her father and ask for a servant. She said she feels shy but he told her to go. She couldn’t find him so left a message with Our Mother, Aisha. He came at night and found them resting in bed and told them to remain in their places. He laid in between until Ali (may Allah ennoble his face) said that he felt the coolness of the blessed feet on his stomach. Ali complained and defended his wife in front of RasulAllah who responded with, “shall I teach you something where Allah will find a better helper?” They agreed and were taught to say thirty-three times SubhanAllah, thirty-three times Allahu Akbar and thirty-three times La ila ha il-Allah before sleeping. This is nasiha (counsel) from RasulAllah to his beloved. Peace and blessings be upon them. Sayyidina Ali (may Allah ennoble his face) never left this even during the calamity in Safeen.

Another time, she and her children suffered from hunger and Ali could not see them in this state. They ask for five goats but they receive five words instead which are; Ya Awwal al Awwaleen (O the First of the First), Ya Akhir al Akhireen (O the Last of the Last), Ya Dhal Quwwat al Mateen (O the Possessor of Absolute Power), Ya Rahim al Masakeen (O He who shows mercy to the impoverished) wa (and) Ya Arhamar-rahimeen (O the Most Merciful of the Merciful). If we want something, we should recite these five and then we will find openings and benefit.

One day, Fatima Zahra and Ali said that if Allah gives shifa (a cure) to Hassan and Hussain they will fast for three days. So at their recovery, he goes to get three sa’aa (a measurement) of wheat which is enough for them. At iftar, she makes bread and a needy person comes so she gives them the bread. On the second day an orphan comes. On the third day, a prisoner comes. Three days they are suffering from hunger. Allah (Exalted is He) sent beautiful verses about this in Surah Insan. They gave just for the sake of Allah. This is the aal-al-bayt.

Her life was full of suffering. The biggest calamity was losing her father because at the end she was the helper, the one who sacrificed and the supporter. After her loss, she took the sand from his grave and wiped her body and was crying; “The one who smells this sand never sees calamity.” She never laughed after this at all. She was just waiting to follow.

She said to Sayyidah Asma b. Umays (may Allah be pleased with her) that her last wish is to be buried at night and for people to not see her body shape. Her response was that she learnt in Ethiopia how to prepare with sheets and sticks so her shape will not be seen. Who will look at dead people? If someone wants to be with her (alayha-salam), you must feel modesty and shyness. You have to cover yourself.

No companion knew the response to who is the best woman. Sayyidina Ali (may Allah ennoble his face) left the gathering and told his wife who said, “it is best for a man to not see a woman and for a woman to not see a man.” She is teaching us how to control ourselves. She will have a special station on the Day of Judgement. She was covered in the dunya (this world) and Allah will cover her in the akhirah (next world).

If you want to be with her, you have to be like her. Try to be pure as Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) want. When we hear them; we obey!

Everyone who loves her will be with her; we just need to link our heart with hers.

May Allah grant us the company of Sayyidah Fatima Zahra (alayha-salam) in this world and the next.
 Allahumma Amin
