This topic was delivered by Imam Khalid Hussain in Peterborough on 26th December 2009 to begin the Traditional Halaqa with Shaykh Samir an-Nass, Ustadh Haroon Hanif and Ustadh Tanweer Hussain.
In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful and Compassionate
All praise to Allah, Lord of the Worlds. And salutations and greetings upon our master Muhammad and upon his family and companions.
I intend to study and teach, take and give a reminder, take and give benefit, take and give advantage, to encourage the holding fast to the book of Allah and the way of his messenger, and calling to guidance and directing towards good hoping for the countenance of Allah and His pleasure, proximity and reward, transcendent is He.
The best of creation is Prophet Muhammad (upon him be peace). The believers need to implement this into their lives. Allah has created every individual in the best of their ways. Look at your physical body, it is perfect. When you are born you are perfect. Everyone is born in the state of belief. When we go to seek sacred knowledge we need to bring out our character. When you sit with the Shuyukh you will see you want to attain their character as they have adab. A man once said, “Sit in the presence of your teachers as if you are sitting in the company of the companions of RasulAllah (upon him be peace).”
Put your physical body into perfection. Make intentions and don’t limit yourself in front of your teachers. The more you go to seek sacred knowledge the more you know you know less. We are in the company with specific angels who go to seek sacred knowledge. When you leave your house with this intention they are with you. Adhab needs to be there.
Adab needs to be there to the extent as if you can imagine you are standing in
front of Allah on Yowm-Al-Qiyamah. These should be applied when you seek sacred
knowledge. If you pass knowledge and the person implements it. It is called
Sadaqah-tul-Jaariyah. This is the purpose of seeking knowledge, to implement it
and share it.
To keep focused in lesson:
1) Stay in Wudu
2) Before you go to lesson and send some salawat upon the Prophet (peace be upon him)
3) During the day seek forgiveness from Allah
4) Pray for forgiveness
5) Before Fajr pray 2 rakahs
6) Pray constantly
There are glad-tidings for people who are patient. If you really want to attain Allah’s mercy then attain patience. Have PATIENCE, GOOD CHARACTER, UNDERSTANDING OF OTHERS and HAVE THE UTMOST HIGHEST INTENTIONS.
Don’t leave before you teach someone else something or adopt a part of the Sunnah, even saying salaam. When you wake up thank Allah (Exalted is He) and declare your faith. When an individual goes to seek knowledge and has the intention to learn but dies the angels will come and teach him in the grave. We attain good character by becoming familiar with RasulAllah (peace and blessings be upon him). He would always put his hand on top of children. He would always have a smile on his face, perfection in every way. Character is the most important thing in every aspect. Try to embody his character to your lives. When you learn the deen then implement it. Make dua in every state you are. When Allah wants goodness and khair in everyone, He shows them the deen.
Habib Umar said, “Whoever has not seen a face of a successful person he
will never be successful.”
